Could someone please 'build' me a computer to run OSx86?

Okay, well, my iBook broke recently and I don't want to spend $600 on a used macbook. So, is it possible to build a mac desktop? Not one where you have to use modified versions of leopard, but where it is exactly like a normal mac? I plan to put it in a mac pro case to look nice...



EDIT: Looking for someone to give me a list of components to have for this thing, needs to run OSx86. I want a dual core processor, and the ability to play games. Not super gaming, but things like Quake live and maybe WoW, games like that. Help! I'm N00B!

This would be my first experience building a computer, so I'm looking for a beginner's guide... I have no idea what OSX86 even is. I looked a little bit in the wiki, but I don't know. Is it a modified version of Leopard? I guess that would be OK as long as it would be as true to the original as possible, and there would be a way to update in the future...

EDIT: Alright read some more and now I see t is a modified version of OS X that will run on normal PC hardware, depending on compatibility.

Maybe somebody could help me out and show me what hardware they used on their build? I'm looking to make a PC with at least a dual core processor, a pretty good amount of ram (1-2 GB?) and a good graphics card. Hoping to be able to play some games on this machine, does not need to be able to play the super intensive games, but some games would be nice. So a semi-gaming computer that is of pretty good speed, and hopefully a good hard drive, like a 160 GB, maybe more, don'w know. Any help?

OSX86 is actually pretty flexible in my experience, I had it running on an AMD dual core and ATI gfx card (The opposite of what you would expect most Macs to be using).

What is your budget?

Hopefully something under $600, but still fairly speedy. Forgot to mention budget, oops. If nothing good can be made for that price I will be getting a job in a few months, but still would like to keep cost down.

Ya know... If you really want a seamless Mac experience, you could get one of the new Mac Minis. They are actually pretty powerful machines for the price, $600 (Less if refurb or used).

Otherwise, it would be a pretty standard PC build, lots of people here are better at putting together a parts list than me, though. Besides, whenever I price out how much a new desktop would cost, I get tempted.

I have a few issues with the mac mini. One- it's not that fast but I guess anything's better than what I have now. Two- it's tiny and ugly! Three- it's no gaming computer.

So who here could figure out what I should use to build this?

OSX86 hates my Biostar Motherboard. I can never get it to get passed the white Apple Logo after it installs on the Hard Drive. It just kernel panics no matter what Kernel I try - whether it's vanilla or a hacked one.

I think it has something to do with my PATA DVD Drives and my SATA Hard Drive. Do these conflict? If I chose just SATA will it start working? I always wondered what kext to select when it asked for these because it only let me chose one for PATA or SATA chipsets, while I need both due to my hardware configuration.

I'm going to tell you right now that you want to get a Gigabyte Motherboard and a decent Intel CPU. Nvidia graphics cards have better compatibility but I know that my HD4870 has drivers. Stay the hell away from any recent Creative Sound Cards, I wouldn't go any higher than an Audigy 2 ZS, or none at all. Get a SATA Hard Drive and a SATA DVD Drive. Get a decent 500W+ PSU too.

I can pick you out some good components if you want, but I have no doubt you could get a decent gaming computer that supports OSX86 for under $600.

I think I vaguely remember reading somewhere on that website that you should try to go with SATA optical and hard drives.

EDIT: As for sound cards, I don't think I'd get one at all. I don't need superior graphics cards, you mentioned your 4870 was pretty good in the other thread and you know it works with OSX86? I don't really need incredible graphics, just whatever I can get away with cheap that is fairly decent. I'd really like to go as cheap as possible. And will a gigabyte motherboard fit in a mac pro case?
