Can I use this portable dvd player?

It has a little switch that says av in/out but it only has one plug for a/v
(Sorta like the av out plug on a camera).
Could this be used for a portable? its the Audiovox D1420

Why the whole thing? Also its not really that large, I could fit it into a biggish case.

Well, portable DVD players often have only one circuit board, besides maybe a few teeny ones. That board contains the screen board and the DVD board, plus the AV in goes through the processors on the mainboard, so yes, you need the whole thing.

How? It has a headphone like jack for a/v in

Thanks but how would I go about hooking a console up to it? I've never really had to mess with jacks like that before.

oniak, you may have to wait until you've opened one up so you can post a pic before you'll get help on yours specifically. for your first try, why not try to get a screen that is a little easier to work with or that has been researched more... like the psone screen!

What he has to do to hook up video is take apart the player, remove the jack, and figure out based on the pinout where composite and audio and ground go. He doesn't need to solder to any chips, or anything like that, as AV in is right there, and he now has a pin configuration.

Why would I pay an outrageous amount for a Psone screen and have to wait for shipping when I can get this free . And yes your right. I just don't get it. I can solder other things fine, I've av modded my genesis and overclocked my gba and fixed various electronics but I've never had to wire up a screen before.
