15" Displays ? 12" Touchscreens ? about 100$
Hi,
although I can't mod anything because I haven't done anything yet, not even painted something etc.
I found this nice page:
chinavasion.com
Where you can get like 15" portable dvd players..
Can we use them for screen hacking ? I'm thinking about a Super Famicom Laptop Mod or like that.. with a 15" or 12" you can really make it look like one!
They have 7" DVD players for 50€... I guess that is cheap..
Can they be hacked ? Because they seem to have any outputs you need..
# Primary Function: Portable Region-Free DVD Player
# Screen Resolution: 1280x800
# Aspect Ratios: 16:9, 4:3
# Color: Black
#
# Input/Output/Connectivity:
- Power IN
- Antenna IN
- SD/MS/MMC Card Port
- AV IN
- AV OUT
- Earphone Jack
- USB Port
- Game Controller Port
- VGA Port

i have heard that most of these chinese international buying and selling sites, like this one and alibaba.com, are plagued with tons of scammers. if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

It is not MY CHINA SITE, dude..
I just found it in the internet!
sorry in the future I wont post links to shops.
But otherwise you couldn't tell me if those could work or not..
Hmm
Do 17" screens work ? Which ones ?
I'd like to buy one that cheap too, if I know, what I'm going to start with..

I was trying to joke a little but it didn't work
and I was more referring to it being the site you posted than the site you ran. soooorry.
to answer your question, the DVD player can have all the outputs in the world but it needs an A/V input. so that you can input the signal from the console to the screen. the best is when it has the composite inputs, but that's just me.
here's a thread going on right now that explains why it's kinda tough with most DVD players:
http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=32551
and unless you're good with programming, the touchscreens aren't a good solution.

lol it's the Westinghouse that ben used in his first couple 360 laptops. I searched for it specifically because he already detailed how to hack up the power and audio boards. and it has built in speakers
all I did was search 17" westinghouse and every once in a while the model he used will pop up. I was telling eurddrue a little while back that I got lucky because the item's picture was of the backside of the monitor so I don't think it caught as much attention.
when I see those monitors go, its never more than $50 shipped. but $37 shipped was preeetty lucky.

I seem to recall a thread about chinavision - we decided they were definitely scammers.

How so? They are verisign secured and McAfee secured. Fraud watchers also says they are legitimate.
Also they are called "ChinavAsion". Not "ChinavIsion"

Maybe it was a different site. I'll need to track down that particular thread when I have time. I think either Bic or Spongy found the site and started the thread regarding it.
Hmm.

No what happened was someone posted the wrong URL, which led to a parked domain instead of the actual site. That was in the "cheap projector" thread.
