Having Trouble with a SNES cart...

Post by Michaelthurston »

Okay, I got a copy of super metroid from a buddy of mine, and boy was it Dirty!

I spent a couple hours cleaning it, and testing it.

It will NOT work, So i opened it up, and looked at the board, Tested the Save Battery and everything.

The Game's board itself is in Flawless condition, I dont know why it won't work!

It boots up like any other normal game, Black screen, flicker, but it just stays black like the cart isn't connecting right.

Anyone have any Ideas? Any help would be appreciated...

Game? Condition of pins? Any noticeable damage on rom chips(Like brown spots etc or even a broken pin)?

No, Like i said the game itself is In Perfect condition, actually looking better than some younger PCBs i have...

Save Battery is perfect, All the ROM chips are flawless, All the pins coming off the chips are fine, and all the res/caps are fine.

The Pins WERE really dirty, But i cleaned them off, But something still remains, and it wont come off I've gotten most of it but a few little dots wont go, At first it looked like rust o_o But it came off with a little force....

I don't know why it wont work! Gaaah.

I'm going to clean it some more...

You could try lightly sanding the pins and then cleaning them again. I've had to do that on a few occasions.

I haven't tried it myself but I've heard those special metal cleaners do wonders for dirty contacts. There's also other methods, like the eraser trick (take a standard eraser and rub it against the contacts), but if you've sanded it and it still won't work, then I doubt the eraser will do much.
