GC power question

Ok, from what I understand from the stickies is the fact that the 12V line can take anything from 5V-12V. However, what I am unclear on is how you then can generate the necessary 1.9V. I've read that if you bridge the two pins and only use 5V on the audio line, you can't use the original power board to generate the 3.3V and 1.9V lines. Now it's easy enough the figure out the 3.3V line with a TI regulator; however, I am at a loss as to how I would take care of the 1.9V line.

Is it true that you can no longer use the power board for anything less than 10V? If this is the case, how do I solve the 1.9V issue? (According to the stickies, the 1.9V line draws about 2.6A. Also, I have only a Rev A board at my disposal.)
