N64 12v line

Is there anything to do about the 12vlts?

Can u build a circuit that steps the voltage down, because if u can that would widen the range for a battery supply.

If I recall correctly, you can get away with putting 7.4v or so on the 12v line. I'm pretty sure that information is in the stickies, but I'm going to go double check.

The 12v line goes straight to a 7805 that powers the audio/video DACs. You can plug any voltage you want there that's above 7v

Why didn't nintendo make the power brick output 5v instead of 12v? I've been pondering that, and I can't come up with a decent answer, other than that it's cheaper to put it in the n64 itself.

I noticed that one of the pins (pin 7, I believe) on AMP-NUS goes straight to 12v.

Well, many, many, many, many N64ps have gotten away with 7.2v or 7.4v, so it must not matter that much.

If anything, the lower voltage probably just makes the audio output just a tad bit lower.
