usb playstation controller

Post by watermelon »

is there a way to mod my playstation controller so i can use it as a pc joypad?

you can get a converter that connects to the playstation connector and changes it down to usb, but i dont want to spend money buying one when its very likely i could make one myself.

if you don’t want to spend the money you would have to use the parallel port

or maybe one of those USB to parallel cables would work but ive never used one onley need them in radio shack though they are about the cose of the ps2 adapters

How would he do it through the parallel port? Wouldn't you need a driver?

Or do you mean the gameport and wouldn't you still need a driver?

The Gravis Gamepad Pro is a USB pc joypad. It plays and looks a lot like a Playstation controller. ($10 on sale, I bought 2, never had a problem)

Or if you want that "real Sony" feeling, you could transplant its guts into a real PSx controller.

This should really go in the playstation section.

They are probably there to protect your computer and controller from bi-directional flow. Without them, you may have problems.

They are there to limit the voltage going to the controller so it doesn't fry.

I probably should have read what type of diodes they were. I was right though, I said that they are there for protection.

theres two wires goign to the molex connector, is the one with the +5 the positive and the one with OV the negative?

does the 9v just power the force feedback? if i dont want force feedback can i just leave this out?

yes, the 9v is just for force feedback. Why would you want to use an external 5v powersource like that though when you can just buy a few (really, really cheap) diodes?

I have a Gravis Gamepad Pro, for the gameport. It is connected to my machine right now. Also, there is a normal gravis gamepad that is slightly based on the SNES controller, but still different. It connects to the GP Pro with a passthrough.

This is going to be hanging out the back of your PC, why not tap a molex for 5V and have it come out the back?

im not going to bother witht he 9v for force feedback, most games wont support it anyway.

the reason i dont want to use diodes is that it means i have to find money and then go into town and buy them, which i cant be bothered to do when i could use a molex thats on my desk right now. plus theres less soldiering involved witht he molex.

im still confused on the positive and negative molex connections. what does molex "ov" mean?

Should the parallel port be set to Bi-directional or ECP for this?
