Cartridge Slot For Sega Radica. HELP NEEDED.

Post by Triforce1990 »

Hi everybody, I just got a Sega Mega Drive Radica (Model 75030) and I have seen it done before, a cartridge slot installed on a Radica. I have taken a few photos as I am unsure of how to go about the job and would be seriously grateful if anybody were to help me out at all. The Sega that the I am hoping to use as the cartridge slot donor is a Sega Mega Drive 2 (Model No. MK-1631-50) but is this the the right type of cartridge slot and if not where can I get the right one? Also, will attaching a cartridge slot effect battery life as it requires 4 "AA" (LR6) size batteries, I haven't played it long enough to know how many hours it lasts on them?

Here is a picture of the Radica board.

Thanks for reading.

1. Yes, that connector will work.

2. This mod is EXTREMELY difficult; especially for someone without years of soldering practice. Search the forums and you'll find a chart on how to hook the slot up; but to my knowledge no one has completed this mod except for Ben.

Hi all,
would appreciate help with this one too pls.
I'm trying to mate the radica to the slot and tie in with a PSONE screen.

My question is this? On the pinout diagram from Ben's site there are 3 pins that I cannot follow?

A22 and A21 on the genesis slot and NC on the ROM board? there doesn't seem to be a corresponding solder point?

any ideas?

thanks, Pez.

It isn't that hard to do, just patience and a good soldering iron.

Those extra pins on the cart slot are left unconnected, (NC = not connected), from what I understand these other pins on the cart are extra address lines for the larger games, that took up more space on the cart.

The cart slot diagram on my blog is the same as Ben's but shows the orientation with respect to the cart, i.e. the pins are labelled as if you are looking at the edge connector end of the cart, NOT as if you were looking at the actual slot! It is an easy mistake to make, but the diagram does indicate this, just in a non explicit way.

Thanks Geek, I had got hold of your diagram and I still failed, must be my soldering, anyhoo I was a bit miffed with the compatibility probs so have opted for the blaze unit which already has the slot on. Prob is now I have a grey PSONE screen that rolls? i must be missing something? I have put the AV feed from the Blaze into the (comp vid in) on the PSONE screen and the negative Blaze feed into the number 4 (GND) on the PSONE screen. This kind of thing is new to me so I'm struggling a bit, usually I just do straight forward mods. any ideas?

yeah, I only get an output in PAL mode, NTSC/JAP gives nothing m8.
At least it's outputing something and I did test it on a TV to see if it still works ok and it does,
also I tested the screen and that too is fine so has to be me. doh!

I got it working! it was a bad track from when I de-soldered the AV port, now I just need to figure out which battery to get hold of as the screen is 7.5v and the blaze is 5v.
