File Recovery Software

Post by ShockSlayer »

I was cleaning off my desktop this morning and I was moving a bunch of files to one folder, and then all of a sudden, all but four of my destop icons remained. Don't know where the rest went, and I couldn't find the using this search tool called "Everything" so I think somehow they got deleted.

Anyone know of a good file recovery program?

Try that. It has helped me a couple times.

There's something called ActiveUndelete that comes with TinyXP, let me see if I can find a link...

EDIT: Here's a demo http://www.active-undelete.com/download.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the meantime, try not to make a bunch of new files, or it might overwrite your old ones.
Do you have view hidden files turned on?

I've only used file recovery utilities once or twice, but there's a bunch of them here:

(<3 Majorgeeks. They have all the good toys.)

Thanks guys, but now I have a different problem. The files weren't deleted, but instead, they are hiding from me. And my computer's loading times for simple actions have increased tenfold. I saved a copy of everything off my desktop using one of the file recovering software, but there is one folder that is 80 GB that is acting strage. I can access it if I type it the location in the address bar(or whatever its called), but it is not on the desktop. >.>

Ideas?

Check for hard drive and file system errors. Something's gone flukey.

Start -> Run -> CMD -> chkdsk /f

I selected "Y", then I restarted my computer, it did what it said it was gonna do, and then all my files were back on my desktop! :D And that HDD clicking sound that I mentioned is still there, but I'm not having any major issues with it.

Thanks for your help bic, you saved me 80 gigs of data! Give me a call if you need someone to have your babies, m'kay? :P
