how not to fry your n64

they are NOT one dollar! they are in between 6 and 20$ i was so ticked when i found out (this is the prices of the ones at my radioshack)

Is frying your N64 while altering it a common problem? Should I be looking into one of these anti-static bracelets?

well, you CAN.....but you can also just make sure you touch a grounded piece of metal every once in a while to make sure you get rid of any static you may have acumulated

I got an anti-static bracelet for $5.something from eBay including shipping. All it is is a metal plate attached to an alligator clip. The metal plate is pressed against your arm when you strap on the bracelet. The alligator clip simply attaches to something metal near you.

ok what about a mat like rubber or wood or something along the lines of that.

Could i fry it by putting the wrong voltage in or not attaching a wire of the cartidge slot properly?

What you want, is to be connected to ground. The best way to do this is to make some metal bracelets and anklets, then connect those to something metal in your house, which connects to ground. The best thing to connect to is a metal focet, because the pipes run to ground. I suggest using alligator clips between the bracelets and the focet, because they are easy to remove if you need to get up. Wood is ok if it isn't wet, but if it gets charged, it won't help you any.

And yes, of coarse wrong connections would fry it.

Yeah. If I'm going to, I use solder wrapped around my arm/ankle, since it's always near by. TBH I don't tend to these days, unless I'm handling something really delicate.

I made a grounding pad. Basicaaly I just cut the power leads off a computer power cord, leaving only the ground plug. The ground wire is connected to either a cookie sheet or my metal desk frame. I usually have another wire running from that clamped onto the PC chassis. That technique can be altered for this work.
