Playstation (Phat) with weird wires!
Hey guys. I have a SCPH-9001 playstation.
Its one of the last revisions of the phat playstation, and has no I/O input.
I opened it up today, and I noticed something. On top of one of the black chips, theres some electrical tape. Under that electrical tape, is a small chip that has red wires going from it to various parts of the main board.
Do all playstations have that small chip thats ontop of a big black chip that connects to various spots on the board and is under some electrical tape? Or is mine modded in some way?

Sounds like a modchip to me. I have one of those same series, and I don't recall seeing anything like what you're describing when I opened it up.

Looks like this: http://www.modyoursystem.com/pics/ps1chip.JPG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Upon research (looking at pictures on google), it is a modchip, I think.
I'll post a picture of it later just to be sure.
(I dont believe this is violating any rules, as I am just trying to figure out what this thing is. If it is a mod chip, so be it. I am NOT discussing any type of piracy or anything. I am NOT talking about mod chips in general, I am just trying to find out what this is.)

It's fine, HDC - this is certainly just a matter of identifying it, and nothing more.

Heres the pictures:

I believe this is a Playstation STEALTH 7 Wire mod chip.
Also, yes. The 900x series of Playstation Phats, had SMALL motherboards. Not as small as the psone, but still pretty small.

ahem the ps1 900x series mother board "is" smaller than the psone mobo
nice bargain btw,blaze3927 wrote: The dimensions of the redesigned PS1 motherboard are as follows:
length: 19cm
width: 9cm
total area (l x w): 171cm (squared)
comparing this to the PSone motherboard
length: 17cm
width: 12cm
total area: 204cm (squared)
