NES Reprogrammable cartridge project
Hi all, I was wondering what kind of a EPROM I could use with the nes carts. My plan is to take a old football game cartridge and add a ZIF for the EPROM's. I guess you could call it a reusable NES cart because I wanna have a bunch of eproms labeled and just be able to put them into the ZIF slot. What kind of EPROM would be easiest so I dont have to rewire or anything.

Well, that kinda depends on the mapper of the cartridge you are using. I forget exactly what kind of eprom I used, so I may have to check tonight when I get home. In the mapper 0 cartridges (which BTW, are actually no mapper) you can just drop this particular eprom into place. Keep in mind also that depending on the mapper you may not be able to find a drop in eprom replacement and that if you want to have multiple mappers it would make more sense to simply use the same model of eprom and just take the time to wire up a socket correctly. Also, be careful using a ZIF, as you can easily make the cartridge too fat to fit into an unmodified NES.
