ps2 slim won't turn on, found problem, need to find solution

Post by kylechu »

Help, my ps2 slim refuses to turn on! When I plug in the cable it gives me a red light, but when I push power it doesn't seem to want to turn on. The button feels stuck too. I just bought this from someone, and they said it worked. What happened?

Skyone?

And, open it up and check. I don't know how the button is wired, but you could try bridging the pins and see if it boots up while it's bridged. If it does, put on a new button.

Hope mine works :P

Here's the power board. It seems that the button has popped off! It fell out as I opened it up.

The button used to be on those four pins arranged like a rectangle.
Anyway, picture of the board

Here's the button. Can I just replace it with a regular tact switch?

Wait, so how can I fix this? I tried soldering onto it, but it didn't seem to like that. The regular tact switch is way to big to fit. What do I do?

I'll be shipping him a new power button module today, though it is strange to think that the button popped off or something during shipping.

For future references though, you would either solder it back on, replace it with another standard tact switch of that size - or if you were modding it, replace the whole power board with your own electronics. :P

Just solder a couple of wires to it and then to the tact switch.
