laptop salvage questins

picked up a laptop (broken?) for cheap ($1) and it came with its battery, Io opened the battery and tested the cells with my multimeter and they were alive,I do have the power adapter for the laptop but I was wondering if I could salvage the whole battery (including its circuit board which i think must be the charge protection circuit) and use it as a battery for a portable.

I also have a dell battery (see my trade thread) which cells work fine is there any way I can use this one as well?

last question, anything else i can salvage from the laptop? its an acer travelmate without any ram or hdd, no wifi adapter. when trying to turn it on nothing happens but the battery indicator is green. not sure if the lcd is working or not.

Have you tried plugging it into an external screen? (You'll need to install at least 1 RAM module to get anything out of it, though. Don't bother if you don't have one that's the right size lying around.)

You could use the battery if it's got its charging circuit built in. If you want to play it safe when charging, you could use the remains of the laptop as a charger.

Unfortunately the screen isn't useful. You might be able to hack the trackpad and/or keyboard, if the laptop uses PS/2 or USB to communicate with them.

trackpad uses ps2 so im gonna use that, but will a laptop not even turn on/do anything without ram? i though I'd at least sget to boot config or cmos or something

Unless it has some RAM built into the motherboard, no it won't.

Personally I've never seen a PC POST with no RAM in it. (It just goes "beepbeep --- beep beep" over and over. It has to have some RAM.)
