HD inputs, but no HD.

Well, I got a TV from a friend of mine, and on the back it has some component (RGB) inputs. (Actually, it says Y, Pb, and Pr) I plug in my 360 component connectors, flip the switch to HD and go to Video 3 on the TV. (Which is the HD one.) It just shows a bunch of black and white boxes/lines moving around. Even when I set it to display in 480p (with the HD switch on) it still shows me static and fuzz, though with the switch to regular, it shows fine. (Through RGB)

So is it not possible to get HD resolutions out of this? Any ideas?

Ha, I have that TV! I haven't tried my 360's component connectors, but I do know my Wii's 480p works fine through it...

Component connections does not an HDTV make. Component is just an analog video signal that is able to output HD resolutions as well as SD ones. It seems like the TV is working fine - you can use the component to get a better signal and better picture quality than composite even though it's at the same resolution.

Exactly. My TV in my room does the same exact thing with the 360, but it still does seem to be on 480p.

Think you could try it with the 360? It does 480p through RGB when the switch is set to normal, but if its set to 480p and the switch is on HD, it doesn't work.

If it is 480p with it set to TV, you might as well leave it, sounds like its working right. You could make sure that the display setting is set to 480p and then try switching to HD.

Right. Like bic said, it's working fine. The TV doesn't necessarily do HD, just RGB.

I have a 15" TV that has RGB inputs, and it calls it Color Stream, and it works fine with my 360. I'd think it's not HD, but weirder things have happened lol.

That's not RGB, even though the jacks and plugs are colored in those three colors, it is component. There are significant technical differences. Most 4:3 TVs with component input only do 480i through component, try setting the X360 to not be progressive scan.

480p isnt really HD. Its more like enhanced definition.

It is sync is on green, but does a lot of other weird things as well.

As for the non-adoption of SCART, no real idea, other than its a large and fugly plug. There are high-end US TVs from the early '80 that do have it, surprisingly. The home video game/computer crash probably had something to do with the non-adoption, because if you don't have hardware (like home computers and video games) that can use it, why include it?

My Sony Trinitron also has component IN, it works when you set the PS2 to RGB and then enable progressive scan in the game, a lot clearer.
