Battery Question

Post by Michaelthurston »

(sorry for making so many threads)

I have this battery here: http://www.batterymart.com/p-dvd-42li.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

7.4 volts, 4200 mAh

But it doesnt work at all, It powers on the N64, and screen.

But when i try them both it'll either not give a video signal, or it'll shut down the Psone screen completely...

I don't Understand why these wont work; Can someone explain? because these are the exact same batteries from the DIY N64 portable revision episode... ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubw8cReJ ... D65CFC80B7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

4200 mAh should be fine right?

I don't have the orginal charger either...so i use the Psone slim wall adapter to charge it...Could this be why?(7.5v 2A charger)

Thanks in advance for any help...

Oi...I first watched the systm video and I was like wow. Then I spent some time on the forums and found out they just copied benheck and found a lot of what they do is really dumb. There are a lot better batteries out there that don't cost that much.

Anyway to address your problem. It sounds like your screen and console aren't getting enough current to power them. Why? Because the battery isn't charged, the ps1 power cord you are using is only 7.5 volts. To charge a battery it has to have a higher voltage, actual 7.4 volts chargers give off about 8.5, and fully charged batteries are at about 8.4 volts. So the ps1 charger won't cut it for charging.

Does it have a charging circuit built into the battery? If so, yes.
If not, you'll probably ruin your batteries and maybe burn down your house. Get a real li-ion charger.
What are you using to get 3.3v? Maybe it's really inefficient, so it's drawing more current than the battery can supply.

Nope, Charged it all night with a 9v charger, hooked it all up, and everything actually stayed on this time, but didnt play.

When the n64 turned on, the screen flashed like it was going to start the game. but nothing,

I'm going to try a 10v charger, seeing as the dvd player the batteries came from did say 9.5v in where i took it out.

EDIT:

I used a 10v 850mAh wall charger

The battery is fully charged.

The N64, and screen turn on(but the game doesnt start)

and it looks like this:

Anyone know whats going on?

EDIT 2:

Now for some reason the adapter i was using doesnt work anymore .-.

I'll probably just have to end up buying new batteries...

n64 games/carts have an infamous trait of not booting when dirty/dusty...sooooooooo give the cart and cart slot a good old bj, if that doesnt work then...try again

I figured it out!

For some reason, A 2.2k ohm Resistor is too much for my circuit...I dont get it thats what they said to get...

I have a 1k ohm but it isnt enough, what should i get??

Please hurry lol

EDIT: you might wanna know thw voltage im getting: 3.7 ont he 3.3v line

Re: Battery Question

So heres what i have. The batteries are putting out 7.4-7.7 volts

The resistor on the TI chip is a 1k Resistor, giving me 3.75 volts at the console on the 3.3v line

What ohm resistor am i supposed to use to get it down to 3~3.4?

The 2.2k ohm is too much, it brought it down to 2.9v...

Any help is appreciated...

Ideally you would want a 1.8Kohm resistor, but if you have two 1Kohm resistors then you can put those in series and get 2.0 Kohms.

I tried that, It put it right at 3.000v, but didnt play the game, powered on, but no game.

If you've run your N64 with 3.7v on the 3.3v line, you may have killed it. Get 3.2-3.4v out of the regulator before trying again. Try number 3 on this list, many people have had non-functioning N64s cured by doing that.
