5 year anniversary of the first VCSp!

Post by benheck »

It was the first week of April in 2000 (I think a Friday...) when I completed it, so yeah, this is pretty much it. Ah, the memories...

And to think only now 5 years later am I close to making them en masse! Oh well...

I just searched for "heckendorn phoenix" in Google... 358 results were sent back to me.

Word is spreading.
They will all be assimilated.

Yeah wouldnt that be like passing the flag to the next generation? After all the first VCSp was very simple using two batteries and now the new Pheniox is powerered off rechargables, slick screen and smaller more comfortable case.

Seems this has been the week for celebrations, huh? The first anniversary of Benheck.com/new forums and the Fifth anniversary of the first VCSp. Hooray for portable gaming!

I still own the first VCSp. it's the only portable I've ever kept.

It's really quite primitive compared to say, the Phoenix.

Well, its now vintage in aspect to how long home-made portables have been around, hell, its the father. You'd have to mortgage your house (your parents'), your car (your parents' cars), and your life.

Now now now...he can't sell ALL of his portables...he started this because he wanted to have portable of the systems he uses, not for the money...hmm..."not for the money" that's a good attitude to keep in mind...

I think he said he ends up making only like 7 dollars an hour on his custom portables, pretty crappy business if he was in it for the money.

Yeah but Ben also love's the Ataris. If he didnt I dont think he would have made so many changes to the design and shared all the knowelge he's aquired over the years.

I'd be funny if Ben wrote up directions and made cases so people could have a VCSp just like the first on. Though I dont know how many would want one. It only ran like an hour on the Atari side and 3 on the tv.
