Gameboy Sp into DMG case

EDIT: Ok so I saw Palmertech's entry into the 08' Portable-Palooza I would really like to make one of my own but without all the cool features like gps and motion sensing. I just got a DMG off ebay and while I wait for it to arrive I want to know how to do this. I also ordered a new tri wing screwdriver because mine is too big to fit into the SP. I am wondering how I would be able to do this by modding the case as little as possible. Would I have to keep the entire DMG mobo inside so I can use the button contacts, the volume wheel, the external connector, and the cart adapter. But on the other hand would I have to use to GBA SP cart adapter and desolder it from the mobo and glue? it into the DMG case? Would I have to only use parts of the DMG mobo so I can fit the SP mobo in it? Also since the GBA SP doesnt have a headphone jack, is there a mod to add one? and a mod to add stereo speakers to it. I have an NES controller laying around too, and I've seen people use the buttons instead of the original buttons, are they better or is it just for looks? And how hard is it to swap them? All replies are appreciated thank you!

Very difficult, time crunching, annoying, and allmost not enough room.
I did the same thing in a differnt style today, and something wouldnt work, didnt know what it was and had to undo everything.

The DMG has two circuit boards stacked on top of each other. One has the controls and screen, the other has most of the dials and the cart slot.

For the cart slot, you have to options: 1. You can desolder the cart slot and relocate it. 2, you can just BARELY make it fit in exactly the right place if you carefully sand down the inside of the DMG case. Here is a picture that shows what I mean:



You can wire a headphone hack easily, the SP had an adapter that went into the charging port, just hook up the jack to those pins. Unless you want to build a new amp circuit, stereo speakers will have to be left out. Besides, it would look too modded then, not stock.

The NES buttons are just for looks. I like the DMG buttons better, myself. Swapping them is as simple as taking the old ones out and putting the NES ones in, take 5 minutes.

For my screen cover, I just took the SP one, covered both sides in masking tape to protect it from scratches, then sanded it down to fit. If I were to do it again, I would probably make a glass screen lense, and use a printed background so it looked more like a DMG cover. Plus, glass is immune to scratches!

Ok! So I have everything now. I just took apart my DMG and was wondering if the lcd ribbon can pop out of the main board before I break it?

Also, I have had trouble soldering buttons in the past both the plastic pad and the old style ones with the rubber pad connector. Could someone help me out with this please?

The ribbon is soldered on one side, and plugged in on the other.

To do the buttons, you will need to wire the GBA SP signal and ground lines for each button to the traces for the DMG buttons. Probably the hardest part.
