How do you start your own review site?

Post by ValiantVenality »

Hey yall! I have another important question to ask you all. How do I go about starting my own review site? I have seen many people who do reviews on products. Like Phonearena, Phonedog, CNET, and many others. What would I have to do to start a site like that? I think it would be awesome because then business' would send their products to me, and then I'd review them! Sounds pretty awesome if you ask me. Here is just a small list of things I think I would need.

1. A URL domain.
2. A Hosting site.
3. Other things =P

I was thinking about the URL and hosting site, and then I was thinking to myself. Why couldn't I just use facebook, or twitter? I could post pictures on each product, do a video review, talk a bit about the product. Do you think that could be feasible? Or would that be very improfessional and dumb? Thanks for the help everybody!

You can have a simple site and use Youtube as a video host of your reviews.

Or can we have reviews.benheck.com and everyone can pitch in? :wink:

If by improfessional you mean unprofessional then yes, using facebook or Twitter for reviews would be unprofessional (not to mention impractical, especially for Twitter).

Why don't you use Google to figure out how to get a domain name and a hosting service? Also, do you have any experience or knowledge designing websites, because you'll need it if you want to do something like this. Also, don't expect to start getting free stuff overnight, you'll likely have to buy products and do reviews of them for a while so you can build up a reputation.

Don't forget about advertising too. It's not like you make a site and it magically appears all over the internet with people looking at it. Your going to need a way to get it out to the mass audiences.

Try using Wordpress or some other blog software. Twitter or Facebook would be very unprofessional.
My site: http://whengamescollide.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
