I would go with a purple/clear controller. An led mod looks amazing. Plus, the only thing to paint is the top piece.

Why does someone always have to make fodder for a flamewar? It's annoying how easily and how often people do it.
I don't think so. I bought one and modded it for a friend about a year ago, and bought it new at Gamestop. I only found two eBay auctions that had them though, so they may be getting more and more rare.
EDIT: I searched Google Shopping for "purple clear gamecube", and it came up with a lot of results. Another convenient, time-saving link!
