Don't get that Newark edge connector. It won't connect very well with NES carts anyway. Even if the pitch isn't an issue, the card edge thickness will be. They're 0.042" and that is made for ones above 0.05" (in other words, it will be too loose on the cart). In short, just go buy one made for the NES. It'll probably save you a lot of headache.
And yes, 0.002 pitch difference is a lot when you multiply it by 36 pins on a side (that means some pins could be as far as 0.07" off, which is a big deal when the pitch is 0.1".

Jack: uh, I didn't say the ORIGINAL NES edge connector, did I? I said one MADE for the NES.
gannon: Of course
I'm just not sure that one posted on the Newark website would be suitable (it could be, but it probably wouldn't be too fantastic!) One way to minimize errors on the pitch is to add teeny tiny spacers to both sides of the connector somehow. That way, the error is distributed so that the error would be 0.035" on each side (which may well be acceptable). I suspect the NES wasn't too picky in its pitch anyway though, since you can wiggle them cartridges pretty well in an NES.
Honestly, I think you'd be better using a tighter connector than the posted one (which technically isn't supposed to grip the NES cart at all, making it similar to the problem with used NES connectors- too loose)

Technicly no. All the things like A/V, controller inputs and things like that come off the NOAC board, you can keep the controller board for convenionce, but its not neccessary.

72 Pin Connectors
Does anyone know where I can buy the same type of 72 pin connectors that are listed on eBay at bulk price - thanks.
ok i know i am new but since i bought ben's book and put some monies in his pocket i should join here.....Sparkfist wrote:Read this. Again please read past posts in a thread to see if the question you're going to ask has been asked before and more importantly see if its been answered.
Or look for a game like Excite bike.Sparkfist wrote:Well the Gyromite(sp) carts from I believe '85 have them. You can call if they have two things one heavier weight and two that it doesnt say rev.2 on the back label. To my knowlege the adapter is a female-to-female and so you solder the NES leads to he board of the NOAC. And just in the case you didnt know Gannon has the chart pinout to make the adapter on his site under NES.
since lastnight i have been looking for NES carts that have a Famicom converter in them...so far i have come up with nothing...i did some research and came up with a list of games made in 1985....(since 1984 it wasnt here yet) nad i took that list down to the local used store and bought.
10 Yard Fight x2 (1 3 screw, 1 5 screw)
Gyromite
Golf
Kung Fu
Duckhunt (standalone)
Urban Championchip
most of them dont have a Rev on the back....the 2 that do (golf and 10 yard fight 3 screw backs) say Rev A...
then theres that funny number stamped into the back of the carts in the sticker (you can see if in the light fomr an angle) and gyromite is "00"
i'm gonna go get some more from a different store but the squeezing and the weight isnt helping because 5 screw version dont flex and creak and weight a bit more.....
are there any other ways before opening them (there has to be) and it was 1985 only right?

This might help. http://rpgd.emulationworld.com/ballz/convert.htm
Looks like the pins on the edge are a different shape too.
