Just picked up a Dreamcast for 15 bucks.
I saw some youtube videos about the dreamcast and saw that is has amazing graphics, so when i saw one in a store i immediately pounced on it and bought it. ( it came with the same controller as Hailraizer used in his Dreamcast portable, and in the top of the controller stuck out 2 chips, what are they? )
Now i see that it is quite large, how do people make small portables out of it?; are there guides on how to cut it down?

Best guess on the 'chips' is that they are VMUs, memory cards, or vibration packs.
Quite large? What are you comparing it to? For a modern console it's fairly small. I don't think there are any PCB trim down guides, as the Dreamcast's PCB is multi-layer(meaning there are traces you can't even see inside the board).

Have you opened it up yet? it is quite small inside, I have mine apart, the biggest thing is the drive.

Re: Just picked up a Dreamcast for 15 bucks.
no i havent opened it up. ( been busy owning crazy taxi
)
*opens it up and looks inside*
I decided not to make it into a portable, but make it somewhat like the Icast.
Now is there some special part I need to get to hook the Dcast up to a PC monitor?
EDIT: pay no attention to the last sentence. Is anyone selling a dreamcast VGA cable?

Yeah, it's called a handful resistors, a few capacitors, some wires, and a switch.

Just be aware that there are a few DC games that don't like VGA mode, so you may want to add a svideo toggle.

Also in the H sync and V sync line theres a resistor sign and 150, what is the 150?
And if you look at the RGB on the dreamcast connector and move your line of vision to the right what are the triangles with the line at the top? ( right above the Ground sign ).

150 ohm resistors, and I think those may be LEDs, the little triangles, but my schematic readability is limited.

They're just diodes, not light emitting diodes? Ok, what do LED's look like on schematics? Are they the same as regular diodes?vskid wrote:They're diodes.

A diode with arrows pointing away from it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;eurddrue wrote:They're just diodes, not light emitting diodes? Ok, what do LED's look like on schematics? Are they the same as regular diodes?vskid wrote:They're diodes.

Does it matter what kind of diode i use?
