Re: N64 Question Thread
Thanks. Just double checking because I don't want to blow anything up.
Also, do the pins on the other side do something, or is that how SifuF cut off the other half in the sixtyfree lite-r. (Always wondered, is the r like "remade" or is it "er" as in "lit-er")

Re: N64 Question Thread
I'm pretty sure it stood for revised.
And are you talking about the expansion port pins? If so you may be confused. You have to solder on to those pins, not where the cartslot pins go. If not, and you knew that you had to solder on to those pins, I don't understand your question. The 64DD just used the actual n64 as a TV out I believe.

Re: N64 Question Thread
So it needed 50 pins for that.

Re: N64 Question Thread
Digging through the 30 pages of N64 threads now. Whenever one of those threads gets me thinking, I'll try posting here.
First question: What's the size of the N64's screws? I think I'm going to take them out and replace them with Phillips-heads of the same size, for easier access.

Re: N64 Question Thread
I meant pins 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the power switch. (on the other half from 5, 6, 7, and 8.)eurddrue wrote:are you talking about the expansion port pins?
I did this, but I just took a few screws from the boarder of the shielding that don't do much, unless you plan on dropping your N64 off a building.Shakespeare wrote:I think I'm going to take them out and replace them with Phillips-heads of the same size, for easier access.

Great idea - I'll use it, thanks.Basement_Modder wrote:I did this, but I just took a few screws from the boarder of the shielding that don't do much, unless you plan on dropping your N64 off a building.Shakespeare wrote:I think I'm going to take them out and replace them with Phillips-heads of the same size, for easier access. They work fine. Perfect size.
NEW QUESTION, YAY.
Just bought 4 7.4v 2200 mAH Li-ion batteries from omgitsthebishop. Wiring in parallel adds amperage, so wiring all 4 of these would give me 8800 mAH, correct? That seems too good to be true, so am I missing something? Also, would I need a protection circuit for these like with lipos? I'm assuming it can't hurt to have one anyway.
Oh, and how would charging them work out? I'm not exactly a genius when it comes to electronics (I've only recently got into them, went from "positive contact from the LED goes to positive on the battery, negative to negative" to this sort of stuf within a week, though, so ehh. Maybe I'm learning [No, before you say anything, I'm not going to do a portable N64 as my first - I'm just using this thread]).

The battery pack could be wired like that but charging is a pain. And you need 4 protection circuits, one per pack. Actually, what kind of pack is it? If it's for a camcorder it probably already has the protection.Shakespeare wrote:Just bought 4 7.4v 2200 mAH Li-ion batteries from omgitsthebishop. For charging, you need a LiIon/LiPo charger. It's best to charge the packs individually, but it is possible (but not recommended) to charge them in parallel. It's also possible to just use a power supply, but not recommended.

Re: N64 Question Thread
I am gonna drop in here and say:
That plastic powder is not lube, it is plastic that has worn off from the joystick. That is why they get loose over time.
Dry lube is best try graphite powder.
Second, the carts can be made small. Really, really small. In fact, I have one almost done, lost the corner piece I was gonna bondo on to finish it, so I need to tear apart one of my copies of Madden sometime.

Re: N64 Question Thread
Most carts can be made small, good games like LoZ: OoT and LoZ: MM and SSB and PKMN Stadium 2 can't get much smaller, about a cm at the most.

Dang. If I can't get all of the carts to the same (small) size, I'd rather not bother.ShockSlayer wrote:Most carts can be made small, good games like LoZ: OoT and LoZ: MM and SSB and PKMN Stadium 2 can't get much smaller, about a cm at the most.

Re: N64 Question Thread
Well, you can take a lot of width off any cart. The height is the problem.
I plan on just making the small cart the standard size for me, since only a few games are bigger. Those will just have to stick up a little more.

Re: N64 Question Thread
When you finish one, would you mind giving the dimensions and a how-to if it's not too obvious to figure out? I'd love to cut down the size of a portable in any way possible, provided I don't mess with gameplay at all.palmertech wrote:Well, you can take a lot of width off any cart. The height is the problem.
