Li-Sulfur Batteries - 3x the Power with Half the Calories

Post by bicostp »

Scientists have come up with a new battery technology based on carbon nanotubes that has "3 times the power of lithium-ion batteries with equal volume", and they're predicted to be lighter and cheaper to produce than current Li-Ions. (I bet they'll burn real good, too.)

This could mean electric cars with practical ranges, laptops that can run around the clock, iPods that run out of music before electricity, and maybe even Xbox laptops you can use for an hour without plugging them in!

But since it's just a proof of concept in a lab, we're probably several years away from seeing them in actual products.

If they need development cash..I'd toss a few buck their way...cause we all know that all the battery companies will stall this as long a they can simply because it'd create reduced battery sales.

I still prefer Li-Po. This looks like it will be too expensive for a few years.

I was looking into lithium magnesium batteries on ebay, and they aren't too expensive, I just wasn't sure on the protection circuit I would need.

I think we should check to see if you can withstand 220 volts
