Do not charge per hour.

I would charge $700-800, and be ask to be in advance, or at least half of it in advance.

Yeah, PS2 modchips are a pain in the ass; much more tedious than, say, those for the Xbox.

Getting there, at least I know the chip itself is ok as I can see the 'DMS is disabled' message on startup. I think I've probably just got a wire to the dvd controller bridged or something which is causing the drive not to spin up. The chip comes unflashed, so you need to load the image from cd first.

Been a bit busy at work this week to sort it out, but hoping to spend a couple of hours on it at the weekend, that's if I can also get my car sorted - some weird noises coming from the front suspension.
