I don't think you can buy anything that amazing in anywhere. He probably made itXCVG wrote:Where did you get that awesome laser?

Home built.
Should I post pics? I killed the diode during a quick fix, and I am replacing it, but the case, lense, and heatsink are still all put together. In fact, if it were not for the fact it does nothing, it looks legit!
I have supplies for 3 more 270mw reds, and supplies for 3 120mw blue/violet lasers. You can actually see the beam more on the violet lasers, and they can burn white paper!
Should I make a few and sell them?

If you did, I'd totally be interested in a violet one. Violet/purple = awesome color.
Speaking of purple lights, anyone have any idea if there are any non-UV purple LEDs anywhere? If so, where could I buy them? I saw one site selling what looked like normal purple LEDs by the hundred, but I really don't feel like wasting $50 when all I want are a few dozen.
As for the Geometry bit, I can't honestly say I'm a whiz kid at it (I only just finished taking a high school Geometry course), granted I did get rather high scores. Feh, as long as I don't need to do anything involving quadratics, I'm good. Lemme know if you need some child's knowledge of Geometry (the only possible reason for which being if Bibin were somehow hit by a bus or asteroid).

Actually, I got a lot of PMs, Bibin was the third guy to hit,
I had some purple LEDs from DX at one point, they claimed they were UV, but they put out essentially no UV light. Normally bad, but since I wanted purple, it was perfect.

Got a link or product number? DealExtreme, right?palmertech wrote: I had some purple LEDs from DX at one point, they claimed they were UV, but they put out essentially no UV light. Normally bad, but since I wanted purple, it was perfect.
I'm excited now, since I had thought it'd be dang near impossible to find purple LEDs that didn't give off too much UV.

Dude, when you sell one I want dibs on a blue one (this would be way to much fun to screw around with at my little cousins batmitzvah. Imagine ballons popping myseriously
). How much would they be?
I haven't been here in awhile, and looking back it's one of the worst ideas I ever had. I'm back and I'll be here for awhile, I was quite active 1 year ago and I hope to become that again.

Wait... you can make lasers? How?palmertech wrote:Home built.

They claim to be UV, but because they are such cheap junk, they are actually a good bit off.
How much the lasers are depends on how much it costs me to make these laser diode driver board, which will be between $4-25. I would probably put the price somewhere between $100-200, since mere 10mw ones sell on ebay and the like for about $100. For comparison, here are some violet lasers from commercial sites: http://www.wickedlasers.com/lasers/SONA ... 73-24.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.dragonlasers.com/catalog/Aur ... 16421.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Both of those are only 60mw, mine would be between 120-130mw.
@XCVG: You can either make chemical lasers, or diode driven lasers. For high power, chemical lasers are best, but for under a watt in small sizes, diode based is best.
Basically, you take a coherent laser diode, drive it with PRECISELY the right amount of volts/current (They are very sensitive) using a driver circuit. You have to mount the diode in a metal housing that has a perfectly sized hole to make good contact so it will not overheat. Then, you build an optics assembly that focuses (Or has an adjustable focus) the beam into a thin, narrow line that you can see shooting through the air at night, and can burn stuff.

Yessss, thanks a ton for this! I've been looking all over for these, and all I was able to find were overpriced $5-a-piece ones or $3 UV ones. I'ma get like 40 of these for a few projects I'll be working on over the summer. :Dpalmertech wrote:http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2398" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Shakespeare wrote: Got a link or product number?
