.ifo and .vob files? (opening them)
I need to open some files in after effects to edit them, but all of the files on the disc are .ifo,.vob, and .bup. Can I open these files to edit them?

.vob files are usually DVDs, and if it's a commercial DVD then it's encrypted.
If it's from a home DVD recorder or one of those DVD camcorders, either transcode them to another format or try changing the extension to .mp2

I took the biggest file and changed it to .mpeg worked for me.
Re: .ifo and .vob files? (opening them)
If i use a converter, should I convert it to .wmv for best work with movie maker? (To do quick editing.)
edit: whn i change it to .mpg manually, it only shows up as 11 seconds worth of footage in media player.

Technically a .vob file is MPEG2 encoded video (+audio) in an MPEG Program Stream. You don't need to re-encode, just use a demuxer like Project X or similar to dump the contents into seperate MPEG2 video and audio files.
You can also find the exact same data in a .ts - which is a MPEG Transport Stream; they're most commonly found from digital tv recordings. The same principles apply here.

So I can open the .vob files in Project X, and it will give me all of the little clips in each .vob file as a mpeg? The DVD camera used created .vob files for each chapter, but inside each chapter, there are seperate video files for all of the scenes. Does project X take the scenes out of the chapter?
