Help with a non working PS2...2

Post by SuperChicken »

Yea unlike the forum below i purchaised a Ps2 off my bros friend for 20$ (CAN) about 14-15$ US

Anyhoo my disc tray opens its just that it doesn't read discs. I've yet to try it out but i'm thinking of possible problems.

Before getting it i thought dust on the lens but in fact the outside of the shell (and inside the gratting at the bottom) are dust free. (and im sure he didn't clean it) He said hes tried a lens cleaner and that hasent worked.

I'm just curious about what i should do. I could open it void the warrenty and try to maybe q-tip the lens and that would hopefully work. Or sell it to an eb for 70$ or send it to sony for repair even though i have a working ps2 and thell probably charge me a bundle.

Anyway post your thoughts and what you think i should do

(and don't tell me to smash it, I'm not like ben i think machines have feelings too. [points to bens pile of cases from old systems])

Well why not see what sony's going to charge for a look at the system. If you want to spend the money to send it in and have then look at it go ahead. Otherwise the only think useful I can suggest is look on the internet for replacement DVD-rom/controller card.

I hope this help you make a desion.

yea i checked it out and it seems when u put in the disc all sounds well until it starts spinning a bit faster then it seems as though the disc loses some traction and is slowing down. It does that for games and dvd movies. Tomorrow im a check the estimate for repair.

I believe Sony charges $99 just to look at it. It might end up costing more than that.

Try some different orientations - horizontal, vertical, upside down. Try audio CDs and CD games. My neighbor last year had a PS2 that broke and basically turned into a PS1 because it couldn't read DVDs anymore.

good idea ill try a ps1 cd the thing is my bros other friend just gave me a ps1 with no cables (plus i already have a modded PSX) and now i have 2 PS2's if it dont work as a PS2 ill probably trade it in for the 70 because I'm not desperate enough to spend 100$ for sony to just check it. I already know its the lens.
