Generic Painting question

ok, I was trying to fix/do a small update to my second project,the idea is replace the dead batteries and applying a generic paint over the wood and put some "drawing" on it.

replace batteries is near done, I just need wait for replacements, and install them.

about the paint.

as you can see, this wood is special, it have a laminated structure wich dont like painting on it.

I though about sandpaper on it, but it is really a pain in the ass,it also have hard/delicated zones near screen or switches, so this option is discarted.

I would like to know the procedure to be able to paint this and what kind of paints or tools should I use, and after paint on it,be able to holding the project like the nice tact as before.

I basically know nothing about wood painting, thats why I ask

any idea?

You need primer first, then paint. Don't use latex paint, it's thick and takes a long time to cure. I'm sure there are 10000 guides on google if you search for "painting wood guide."

Sanding would be the most reliable way to dull that surface to take paint well. There are a few options to try and avoid that, but getting a good finish on that masonite panel is very difficult without sanding. Is it textured to the wood grain, or perfectly flat? I'm going to go on a limb and assume it's flat.

There is a brush-on primer available for glossy, hard-to-paint surfaces like the paneling you used. In the States, it's made by a company called Zinsser, and it's called "B-I-N". It's an oil-based product, so cleanup is a chore, but it sticks well. Once you've got a good coat of that, you can cover it with just about any kind of paint: latex, oil, spray, etc. You'll be able to do whatever you want once you get that primer coat down.

It looks like you're going to have a lot of taping off to do, no matter what you use. Is the case removable at all? It would make this a thousand times easier. I've dealt with that material a LOT, and it's a bear.

As Tib said, you should have painted before. You should probably sand it, that's the only way it's gonna stick.

nope, it is hardhotglued inside , btw, I can remove the back part to access the system electronics for manteniance.

I was thinking about use paper and tape to cover some parts when painting

taking a more deph look to the surface,I think I will be able to sand it

so basically,all I need is sand, apply brush-on primer the surface, and then, apply some paint,put drawing, and then, apply some varnish to protect the paint/drawing and it also should create a cool shinning effect
