Help with something new

I’ve decided not to make a portable but still impress my friends . I'm putting the n64 guts inside a wii case and so far its going pretty well. I was planning on having my spare ps1 screen stuck into the side of the wii, displaying what is happening on the tv the n64wii is plugged into. unfortunately, I cant figure out how to make it run off the 12v dc that the n64 uses. help would be appreciated. any ideas?

use a 7805. ( i think)

The regulator is actually 7808.

Also you can just use a power adapter that comes with the psone screen. It's smaller and gives you enough voltage and amperage for everything.

Im sorry to be kinda nooby. 7808? Is that a resistor or something. I'm just worried that the 12v dc will blow the screen. I think it will because it only wants about 7.5 ac. I know for portables its coming right from batteries which are usually about 7.8ac but I will be running it right out of the wall.

the 7808 is a regulator which steps the 12v down to what the psone screen needs.

When I suggested a similar circuit for getting about 3.3v from a 7805 here (I stumbled across a site talking about it so gave it a go) I was advised that the output would drop under load and also it was a very inefficient method working at about 40% efficiency. I presume that was due to heat loss; so if you use more 7805's to lighten the load, less heat = better efficiency?

My thread was for a step-down regulator; is the inefficiency and variable voltage under load also true for step-up regulators (eg using a 7805 for 8v step-up)?

Oh god no, don't do that. Read Bac's post. 7808 regualators aren't hard to find, get one.

wow guys thanks for all the help. let me get this straight one time before i put my soldering gun to the mobo. for my purposes, i am going to solder a wire from the 12v positive pinout on the n64 board into the 7808 imput and the output goes positive spot on the ps1 screen. for the - i am soldering from the 12v- on the n64 board to the negative on the 7808 and from the same spot on the 7808 to the ps1 screen?
