PSP in GBA Shell

Post by NiCEL.2X »

Someone mentioned this in another thread and I have a question-

Has anyone tried this before and if they have can they give me any infromation they have.

I have a couple of projects being started soon so i won't be doing this yet but i have come up with a few bits:

I would have to use a PSP 2000 because of the smaller screen and the buttons are all membrane's already making life easier.

A UMD drive may not fit so it will have to be custom firmware (even if it would fit I doubt I would put it in anyway).

I would also move the memory card slot to the back so I don't ruin the feel of the GBA shell.

If anyone has anymore ideas let me know I have plenty of PSP parts and GBA parts so I will give this a try as soon as I have time.

Thanks in advance,

NiCEL

You don't even need to make the memory card easily accessable from the outside - don't most people just hook up a USB cable for transfer? Just make it so you can get at it if you NEED to.

This really seems to be up Triton's alley - why don't you give it a go, John?

This was my idea. I thought the best way to do it would be to take two GBA cases and make one case that will fit the PSP guts. What were you thinking about?

Yeah, I'd suggest using two, cutting them up to size with the band-saw, and re-sealing them with a fiberglass layer. As far as the memory goes, you could use a CR-3100 with dual 16-gb memory cards for 32 gb's of internal memory, eliminating the need for a umd drive OR memory slot. Also, the only size difference of the slim screen to the phat screen is a small thickness change. Another cool Idea would be to use the extra space to your advantage and install a Razor X...

This will work - luckily, the adaptive technology in the PSP-2000 and 3000 screens allows you to cut down the screen with an exacto knife, and it will automatically scale the contents down to whatever size you cut it do. This way, sony can produce TV's and small LCD's from the same panels, just cutting them to the the correct size for whatever application is needed.

You serious? The PSP 2000 will scale down the picture if i trimmed the LCD?
do you know of an article that discusses this???

No, it is part of the developer's documentation for PSP-2000 kits. They use the same LCD, but the developers wanted to test multiple sizes. As a test, just try cutting from the corner opposite the connector, and watch the image resize (you can do it while it's on). Post pictures so these non-believing noobs will know what to do also.

This smells red herring/corrupted hearsay to me. Maybe devkit PSP's had this functionaloty or something like that. Or perhaps something that they do in the factory before finalizing the screen. But I find find it hard to believe that you could actually do it with a retail PSP out of the box. But what do I know? If someone is willing to try it on their screen, go ahead.
Also:
PSP video problems are NEVER an exacto knife issue. This is not possible. The screen runs a small checksum routine to ensure that the image perfectly fits the screen. Stop discouraging people from cutting their screens with exacto knives.

I *might* be able to attempt cutting a broken screen of mine, I'm ordering a replacement off of Dealextreme soon (but who knows with Dealextreme shipping :( ) It's not cracked, btw, it just has a bunch of black lines running through it horizontially.
