1st portable system, need some help getting started

Post by authenticsimpsonian »

So I've been lurking on this site a little, and I'm interested in making an SNESp, just cause I can. Here's the catch: I've never made something like this before (I haven't even made my own computer, which I'm guessing a lot of you have) but I know I can do it as long as I have instructions to follow. I've repaired my Rock Band drum set a few times on my own, so that's a start. Also, I only have a regular SNES, not the mini. Since I don't think I'll be getting a mini just to do this project, is it worth it to even try, or is a regular SNES too bulky to deal with? I also would want to make one so that it's a top loading machine, as opposed to one where it sticks out the back, and I don't know if it's hard to do with the old version.

So yeah I need a bit of guidance to get this started. I haven't purchased any of the parts needed to do this, since I figured that I'd ask for some help first. At least I figured out how to get the screws out with a pen and a lighter!

I tried a regular SNES for my first project, and it did Not work in any way, to big, controller ribbon breaking, and all of the components are in different places, so you would be on your own. Ok?

So it is possible, it's just not easy. Hmm. Well I'll see what I can do. I have some other projects I need to finish up first so once those are out of the way I'll get to this one. Maybe my portable will be an NES instead, even though I don't own one (my parents sold it back in 96 when we got our first computer that didn't have DOS on it).

If I were you I'd buy a Yobo FC off of Amazon or eBay because they are easier to work with than the OG and they are much, much smaller.
Life is like a box of chocolates. It sucks unless you spend a lot of money.
