Heh, yeah, right now I just want to be able to finish, even if it is open a little at the bottom.

Dimensions are about 9 inches wide, and 6 inches tall. The thickness I thought was going to be 1.8 inches, but obviously that's not the case here.

Alright I've made my decisions for hardware.

For now it's not going to have a d pad and l button, none of my games need it, and I can just use the ecternal controller if I need to. I've going to use a jumper pak and remove the fan, it's a lot smaller and I can close it. Plus none of my games need it. Also multiplayer port and tv out port aren't going to be on it anymore.

This plan was never to only make one n64. I plan to use everything I've learned in this one and all of my mistakes planned for.

Now I need some battery help,

I rewired the battery according to B and BC,

it is giving off the proper voltage again, but the battery won't charge. I ran the voltage down some and tried to charge it but the charger stayed green and the voltage didn't go back up.

Any advice?

All these posts aren't just me talking to myself here.

Your projects looks awesome. I can't believe how small you've gotten it, even considering its not closed up tightly.
I can't offer any advice for your battery issue, I'm starting a project, but I don't understand how to make the power supply at all. Where did you learn how to wire up the battery?
The paint job could look a little better, but as I understood, your first go at it so no biggy.
Overall great project I'll be looking for updates

Watched the video. Very nice work so far, I can already see it completed. Did you steal my idea for using a usb for the first player control port! :P You could hook up p2 data to the last pin and then it can at least be 2 player!

Waiting anxiously!

Have you left the battery connected for a long period of time? I came across this article that has some useful information. If your PCB wasn't setup correctly you could have drained the battery past the level where it can be recharged.
Read this:

I also saw something searching google that I didn't click on, but it might be possible to save a dead lipo/li-ion battery. Try a google search.
Good luck!

Edit>> here it is, I haven't read it yet, not sure if it will help. I don't have time to read it atm, I need to take a calc test

Yeah, I did steal the player one usb idea from you SS, lol. I might be able to integrate the multi player port, but only If I can get the av output working.

Do you have the exact dimensions for your case? I need some ideas for when I make an attempt at vacuum forming.

You'll be completely safe if you go with 2 inches thick. My portable is 9 inches wide and 6.25 inches tall.

Mine is about 1.8 inches tall at the top, but that's the part that's closing. The bottom where the expansion pak is almost 2 inches tall.

So I got mine to fit at 1.8 x 9 x 6.25

Also I found out the with a little re-arranging and squeezing I can come really close to closing it. Only about 1/4 of an inch is open. So I'm going to leave the expansion pak in there. Also I hardly ever actually run into a game that needs a d pad that I play often. So I'll just use the external port if I need it.

Is the tallest part the EXP pack? Cause I have a trick something that helped me slim mine down, its rather intense though.

Gimme a second, I'll post it up.

Credits for image: Stole the chip off of jjhammerstein's n64 picture in the reference section, made the rest myself.

Okay, what you do is: desolder/cut the four contacts at the top, where I have placed the red lines. Then, you bend the chip forward(the solder joints are strong enough to hold it) and cut down the PCB as low as you can go, meaning all the grounds, and then soldering a wire accross to reconnect them. If I had an actual picture of the mobo of one I could show you that too. Now, with the chip bent forward still, superglue or thermal paste the heat sink onto the BACK of the chip. This saves vertical space, and was necessary for my 6th. This may be what you need in order to shrink it thin enough to close.

You could also just do this which is what SS said, but saving yourself some work and worry.

Not exactly, the ground extends past the chip, he's already cut from what I think I see, mine is just uber cutting.

Actually I already cut off the top and supports pins. It's as small as I can get it without bending it down. I don't really want to risk breaking the pak though. I'm just worried about getting the battery fixed right now.
