STN screen

I am attempting my first portable NES using Ben's book as reference. I have a Casio TV-880B pocket television laying around that I wish to use for my portable. Ben recommends a TFT screen, and this one I have is a STN.

I understand the drawback in using an STN but since I don't have any extra cost to use it, I would like to. The problem I have is that upon opening the unit up... the board layout looks very different than the one shown in the book. I am also having problems deciphering what he is instructing to desolder, since the pictures are black and white.

Have any of you successfully used a STN screen? Or know of information I could use to figure out how to use my STN screen in a portable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

STN doesn't really mean much. If the screen is good, it's good, if it's crap it's crap. Every screen is different, Ben's diagrams aren't going to do you much good.

XCVG: Stop misinforming people. You do it a lot. Try just shutting up and watching for a real answer, or spending 30 seconds on google.

STN screens are less expensive but have a "washed out" feel and a lower refresh rate. To be honest, I haven't heard of that term before, so I couldn't give you first-hand information, but it sounds outdated. Most advice a TFT technology.

Apparently the older ones suffered from the blur, but newer ones are ok. Unfortunately, the one in the pocket TV is probably the older one, but it might be good enough to you. If you want help figuring out how to use it, post some pics.

I've looked it over more closely. The two board don't connect by a 17 wire connection as shown in Ben's book. On my boards they connect with a ribbon cable and a 4 prong connector. I'm assuming this is due to the different screen types. I will treat the 4 prong connector as he treats the 17 connector in his book.
