Nes rumble pad??

Nes rumble pad??
I found a mod that allowed you to put leds in a nes controller...I,m guessing so you can be blinded evertime you push a button!? Anyways, I thought it would be pretty slick to wire in offset motors in place of the leds to allow for pseudo rumble for the nes. My haired brained plan includes a switch for each button to enable or disable the circuit at will, and a couple of pots to adjust the amount of rumble for each button separately. How about a small rumble when mario is running, then a harder one when he jumps for example. I dont think thier is enough juice running around in the nes controller to pull this off without adding a battery pack of sorts. However i have successfully made this work in a sega genesis controller but with only one motor so far. I'm using eraser size pager motors that i picked up on ebay. they are perfectly small enough and fit the task really well. My lack of knowledge keeps me from pulling this off on the nes controller. Anyone wanna jump in and help me bring this idea to the masses?
Re: Nes rumble pad??
There should be enough power for SMALL motors.

I don't think that's what he wants...Hackmodford wrote:Rig it up to the sound so that when volume gets loud you get a rumble. Works good for gunshots
Maybe wire a relay to a button and trigger the rumble motor with that?
Re: Nes rumble pad??
yea i have seen that document, thier should be more than enough power but for some reason it wont go. the nes pad led mod requires a 100k ohm resistor hooked to the 5v white wire according to one modder. Another says the resistor is not needed. i have hooked up the motor with and without the the resistor with no luck. So i hooked up a led and guess what.................it works???!!! those motors can't be pulling much more juice than the led is. the problem is i'm assuming that removing the led and putting a motor in its place is just gonna work. is it that simple? or is thier a better way to wire it up? i know the white wire is the voltage, and i know what the A and B data pins are, what am i missing? if done right, pseudo rumble could be pretty sweet.

Now I wanna build a NES rumble pad, lol. I have some ideas to make mine different though.
Re: Nes rumble pad??
Well, if you figure out something that works, let me know. i have not given up but just cant get mine to go. I posted in another topic about a pseudo tilt motion sensor using mercury switches that some guy on youtube put together. having rumble and tilt motion for some games on the nes would be great. marble madnes or especially snake rattle and roll comes to mind. Some of the shooters would be a great for this to.

lol, duck hunt with rumble
...I'd be up for it! Hm...i've got a dozen zapper guns lying around...I'll take one apart, stick a rumble motor in the grip, and wire that to the trigger! Not only would you get that awesome trigger sound and feel plus the game's sound...but you'd also have a little shaking too! woot!

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!
Get a buzz everytime you wax poetic on a duck............HA HA.......WEEEEEEEEEEEE......... i'm ok now, gotta cut back on the mountain dew.........

Rumble? RUMBLE? Why not a piston on a spring that gives fake recoil?Metallica Man X wrote:lol, duck hunt with rumble...I'd be up for it! Re: Nes rumble pad??
True, very true...the piston is an outstanding idea. hmmmmmm..........why dont we put a laser scope on a caulking gun, hook it up to an air compressor, make it wireless somehow...........then we can caulk those crazy ducks at 300 yards!!!!!! i really do like the idea of a piston though for feedback. something with alittle kick as it would happen realistically when you pull the trigger. Can a feedback device like this be salvaged from arcade guns? does such a thing exsist somewhere out thier? or is this gonna be a search for a suitable stand'in as i think for the nes gun this is a novel idea.
Re: Nes rumble pad??
I want to try this sh!t so badly but I don't have any extra NES controllers, nor can I get any cheaply.
Re: Nes rumble pad??
wish i could help you, i dont have any spare to send you or i would just to see it working myself. I can get my hands on cheap third party controllers rather easily. a couple shops locally sell them. i have a black one from yabo thats actually not that bad. i have no idea how the internals work though so i cant find the data pins. if i could i would be hacking it up instead. This is a call out to all modders reading this. we need rumble support. Anyone else out thier wanna weigh in on this?
like i said before, i can get the motors to work in a sega genesis controller, but not in a nes and i dont know why. Also anyone that can chime in on a kick back option for the zapper would be great to as i like that idea as well.

Re: Nes rumble pad??
I got a cheap crappy NES joystick at a thrift store, gonna try a rumble mod. But first I have to finish putting it in a new case and all that crap. And I have to find a nice controller case, because I've always wanted a more modern NES controller. I'm killing two birds with one stone this way.
Re: Nes rumble pad??
Sounds good! what are you going to use for a case? i had another idea go through my head when you mentioned using a new case. the wii classic controller would look slick. is it possible to adapt the nes d-pad to use the the stick on such a device. I know this seems like a (DUH) kinda question one being digital, one being analog, but hey if it were possible..............
