I'm actually in the process of making a PS2 slim laptop myself, although I'm relying mostly on pre-existing products and modifing them more for power consumption and cosmetic reasons then anything else.

The current progress is as follows;

Joytech PS2 slimline screen purchased (£1) Needs LED Mod and cosmetic changes to look more like a laptop.

Rare PS2 Slimline HD Combo case mod purchased (allows slim PS2 to use a 3.5 inch hard drive without it being external, also has additional fans to qualch heat)

PS2 Slim - Hard drive solder points mod and mod chip instalation still need to be done.

European Official PS2 Linux Kit Purchased, Tested and works.

Battery still needed.

Essentially I'm sticking with the standard PS2 shape but reshaping the screen to more closely resemble a laptop screen, I see little point in intergrating the controller as I use a wireless one anyway and it would reduce my ability to play with other perephrials like the guitar hero guitar.

Also due to me not frequently using the Socom Microphone or Eyetoy Camera I see little point in intergrating these into the system either - prefering to keep the USB ports free for Keyboard, Mouse & Memory Sticks.

I However 'may' intergrate a Keysonic Nano Keyboard I've already got into the top casing to increase its visability as a laptop and feed the USB but this is currently just a possibility; and very dependent upon if the proportion that'll take residence in the DVD drive bay will interfear with putting in new games or even be a spacing option.

That converts YPbPr into VGA, not RGB into VGA. Still useful though.

Yeah, I am still designing the system, and I may move up to a larger screen, but dunno, this should work fine... I like your idea, but as a first project, I don't want to over do it and put a hard drive and all that into it...

Also, one problem, I looked it up on Sony, and according to them, the PS2 consumes 5.3 amps while running? That doesn't sound right, as that would be a lot for such a small console...

I may expand the screen to 17" and use the extra space for more batteries, maybe twice or three times the amount, so... yeah...

Where can I get a slim for cheaper then 99 dollars, because I would like to save a little money, but its no big deal if I can't...

Since I am relocating the whole PS2 and moving the desk drive away from the button, is it possible to use a solenoid to unlatch the drive door?

How much height can I shave off the PS2, as I may relocate the CD drive separate from the PS2, and I am putting a big fan in the case, so I have airflow...

Is there a way to lessen how much power the PS2 draws, as I would like to have as much battery life as possible, and the monitor may draw a bit as well, but I may mod it to use LED's to lessen the power draw...

Can I hook up a USB hub to the PS2?

Actually, you would be surprised at how light a 5000 mAh LiPo battery is... I may not use them, though, as they have a tendency to explode for no reason...

Yeah, one time, when I was using my brushless rustler (RC car) the battery had been puffing out without my knowledge, and all of the sudden, after coming around the corner, it exploded into fire, melting my car >_>

I bet it would be pretty easy to put some sensors on that, as easy as just a couple tact switches. What modeling program? Can you host it so we can check it out?
