Good games for computer with bad graphics card.

Post by gamer404 »

The only PC in the house is my dad's old work laptop. It has a Pentium 4 2.0 GHz Processor, which is pretty decent, but it has a mobility radeon 7500 as a graphics card. The problem is, the card doesn't have any version of Pixel Shader, which sucks. I'm looking for some good games, preferably shooters, and preferably with online multiplay that maybe be able to run on it. I already have Counter-Strike and Halo: Combat Evolved in mind.

btw, if you know any really good games for mac, I'll take those suggestions too.

If it's an Intel Mac, you could install Windows on it.
Otherwise you could try the original Quake, which is free now.

Counter Strike 1.6, Half-Life 1, Team Fortress, Age of Empires, The Sims, any DOS games, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, and other games of that era should work no problem. Basically any game for Linux would work too, if it has a native Windows port.

There are a lot more OS X games out there than you'd expect. You just have to look a little harder than you do for Windows games.

Thanks for the suggestions. I may be able to emulate pixel shader using something such as swiftshader or 3D analyze. Do you guys know how these work?

If you have an Intel Mac, Kega Fusion is such a good Sega genesis/master system/sg1000/gamegear emulator. Marble Blast Gold and Armagetron Advanced are both fun as well.

HL2 will run on that with the settles at MINIMUM. (Turn like every graphic thing to off or down.)

How do I actually install this? Even with the readme, I can't figure it out!

Nexuiz is a great FPS I discovered when I experimented with Ubuntu 8.04. It's Linux based, but has Windows and Mac ports. Great game. Open source I believe too, which means new maps and guns are in high supply! Everyone should try this sometime!

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, Starcraft, Quake 3 Arena, Warcraft 3, those are all good. Also Emulators are always great.

Not to jack this thread.. but:

is there a way to run games from steam that require pixel shader 1.1. It won't let me run the portal demo, and I can't figure out how to emulate it using 3danalyzer, since there is no actual .exe for portal.

Got this from Steam Forums:
They do run through a seperate EXE file. Steam just runs the game exe file once you click on a game in your games list. You can find it at: C:\*path to steam*\Steam\steamapps\*acountname*\*game* and will most of the time be called hl2.exe. Try using 3d analyzer on that. I have no experience with 3d analyzer so I have no idea if it works. Let us know.
