which clone nes offers the best compatibility?

Hi, I'm in the process of finishing my portable nes, however I have one problem. I need a nes, I have a toaster nes for testing the controls but I need a nes clone so that it will fit in the case and i would not want to destroy my only nes system. Which nes clone offers the best game compatibility? I was going to buy a yobo fc but I heard that it has sound problems and compatibility issues (and last time I had one it deid the next day). I was going to get a retroduo, but like lifeofbrian said, the nes side is rendered useless without the snes side. I want a nes clone that has compatibility for castelvania 3 and most of the problem games that yobo refuses to fix in their consoles. I had a superjoy 3 that I found at my local value village, I tried to wire a cartridge slot using Gforce's diagram but nothing happened. I need some help here, what nes clone offers the best compatibility overall? castlevania 3 is a game I've always wanted and it would be great if I could play it on the go. Please help me out here.

Unfortunately, the Yobo FC, despite having some issues, is about the best you can get. MAYBE the Messiah NEX but it's expensive and there's two reviews with wildly different opinions.

does the yobo fc work with castlevania 3? the last time I used it I could'nt get tetris to work with it and the screen position was a little awkward.

You are not going to find any NOACs that can play Castlevania 3. They are all made off the same die, and they don't support the MMC4 and MMC5 mappers properly. They also don't have accurate sound reproduction. If you want accuracy you will need to go with a real NES mainboard. If you want to make it all smaller, go with the second revision toploader (assuming you can even find one) or a Famicom. Famicom has a very small motherboard, and since you'll probably want to rewire the cartridge port anyways it doesn't matter if it doesn't have a 72 pin connector or not. And as an added bonus you can have perfect sound quality and conpatibility. Or you can do what I'm doing and leaving the 60 pin slot in place and modding a famicom disk system for on-the-go Famicom disk system play.

what are the lockout chip pins on the nes cartridge slot? some games that require the lockout chip to run wont work

Actually, if you look at the PCB's from the famicom controllers it's the same exact hardware, just wired right to the mobo. And different plastic casing around it. As for the lockout, the Famicom doesn't have a lockout chip, and even if there is a matching CIC chip in the US cartridge it doesn't matter since the Famicom ignores region settings.

It's really only some SNES games that won't work with the lockout chip disabled. NES games will work fine.

what does the nes need from the snes? is there a chip that it needs to function, is it the system selection switch or the controller ports? because the retroduo nes board is super small

If you want to use nes controllers all you have to do is swap the red and yellow wires i think

Close, but there are newer dies. The one the YOBO FC has is much more accurate than the older ones like the SJIII had. This is notable in the video quality as well as the sound emulation.
