What's the deal with the GP2x forum?

Post by bacteria »

I don't visit the GP2x/Wix/Pandora forum much these days but saw recently they were having problems with their forum server and passwords, etc; they post that all is fine yet the news part is ok but the forum is still down.

http://www.gp32x.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyone know what's going on there? I probably missed what was going on, as I am not there much nowadays. Is there another link that works? I doubt the Wiz or Pandora will make much of an impact if their main forum is down!

The forum over the last 2 or 3 months has had a major bug. Last week they got around to updating the forum software. It seems that they may be having problems with the software upgrade.

Just an FYI: In short, some of the mods over there work for the openpandora team, and attempted, without permission of the admin, to take over the boards and force the "scene" onto the official Pandora forums, moderated by the Pandora team. They changed the name to "openhandhelds" and added some sections, but it is still the official, Pandora forum, run as a business. Some members were fine with this, but a lot of them were really pissed.

Then, out of the blue, the Admin who had been absent for a long time comes back and pwns everybody. He tried to upgrade the forums, but had problems, so reverted for a brief period, then they went down again. I think he said they will be done by this Monday.

Damn, that's pretty crazy if what you say is accurate Palmer. I have one of the very first pre-order gp2xs, so i've been visiting that forum for years. Just re-did my gp2x dpad mod as a matter of fact.

Palmer is telling the truth. I saw the thread myself.

Granted, the GP2x forum is mostly filled with spam and irrelevance, but sometimes it had some good posts. I don't even use my GP2x much at all these days - only really bother to play it for the NeoGeo emulator (like NeoGeo Turf Masters) as prices for the console and games are too stupidly high to buy the real thing. The other systems it supports - I prefer to buy original consoles and games, i'm not interested in emulation unless it demonstrates to me if it is worth buying a game or not in the first place (which is what I use it for). Unless the Pandora or Wiz offer something great, like maybe full-speed emulation without frame loss, and no need to go through lots of menus to play them, I probably won't even bother.

"In my day" personal computers were just coming out; "in my day". We also didn't have television recording until I was in my early teens and only had 3 television channels. "In my day" (I was born in 1966).

They're moving the forums to evil dragon's servers right now. Should be back soon.

It's a shame what the forums have become though. There are still a ton of awesome people there, but there are now an even higher number of Pandora fanboys that never owned a GP32 or GP2x, and probably couldn't tell them apart in a line-up :lol:. Not to say that liking the Pandora makes you a fanboy. It's just that the forum is flooded with clueless people who seem to clog up every thread. Especially the non-pandora one. I guess it's to be expected though with something that looks so promising.

Wow Bateria I thought I was the old guy (1975) here. My GP2X sits on it's cradle next to my monitor collecting dust. I have the first run with the crap dpad. The GP32x had such a better dpad!
