PSone LCD Backlight/inverter repair?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

PSone LCD Backlight/inverter repair?

Post by Teitoku »

Hi all...
I picked up a PSone screen with a defective backlight. Turns out, the inverter's come loose from the PCB. I'd like to try soldering it back in place, but I can't find where to solder what looks like the ground connection. I'll post a photo when I'm able, but for now, it's the side of the inverter with the two leads, not the four, that's come off. Tore off whatever it was connected to. I can see a spot to connect the upper of those two leads to, but I have no idea what the lower should be connected to. Does it even connect to anything?

Could always LED mod it. Much easier and it means it's a lot more energy efficent.

I could, but it wouldn't be any easier than soldering two leads down. I'm not concerned with the power, either, as this isn't going to be for a portable. Speaking of power, any idea how much the backlight draws? I'd like to plug it into a DC supply and see if it even works before I bother soldering anything.

You know, looking at my screen's board that lower lead doesn't look like it's actually connected to anything. I used my multimeter and it's not connected to ground, and I don't see any traces leading away from it.
