snes multi-out question

hi people

i got here because someone gave me the "hacking game consoles" book for my birthday.
best gift ever i should say.
although i've read the book entirely, i still have one question.
i can't figure out why my casio sy-21 can take composite video from a dvd player without problems,
but not from the multi-out connector composite video from the snes ?
as far as i know those signals are the same, or i really should have missed something.....
all three systems are PAL by the way, so that couldn't be the problem.

i don't think it is, i took the yellow rca plug from the multi-out cable to connect it, which is always composite video.
i'm a beginner when it comes to hacking consoles, but i'm not stupid

I wouldn't doubt it if you (or someone who uses the snes) are just one of those people who pull the cords out of the tv by yanking on the wires instead of pulling on the heads. The wires aren't that strong, and after repeated yankings, they fray and sever. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, cut the plastic coating off the yellow connector, and check the connections. Alternately, just use your N64's A/V cable - it's the same connector.

the cable is originally a gamecube cable, i know snes, gamecube, and n64 cables are compatible with each other.
i'm definitely not the kind of person who just janks out the cable from the tv, i'm really careful with my consoles.
and even if i wasn't , the cable i tried to connect the snes to the casio sy-21p tv is brand-new, never used, i only tested
the cable once on my television to see if the setup would work, and it did.

Actually, even if you care for them nicely, Nintendo cables degrade. They are real crap actually, whenever you bend them you can hear the shielding crinkle and fray. They are also rigid as hell. Not like Sony A/V cables. In fact my generic $12 Genesis cable is better quality. With pretty much all my cables I have to jiggle them a little to get them to work. I have a gamecube cable that's especially bad, so I'm going to try a hack on that once I find a decent quality A/V cable at a decent price.

Are you connecting ground between the SNES and the screen?

SNES to TV: works.

SNES to Casio: does not work.

DVD to Casio: works.

DVD to TV: works.

Right? Because if that's the case than it seems nothing is broken. Try those four again. The only thing I can think of then is either your contacts are dirty, or the signal from the SNES to the casio is degrading too much to get a signal from.

In reality, though, I've had small casio portable TV's just not cooperate with random electronics. I forget which model, but I had one that worked fine on my SNES but not my other SNES. Random! If you can, though, just in case, get another cable.

i've tried every setup again,
everything works, except SNES to Casio....
the ground from the SNES is connected to the Casio via ground of the RCA plug, so i don't think that's the problem.
I'll try to get a new cable as soon as possible and try again one last time,
maybe that should solve the problem...
