so since it does work. id like to put a snes or genesis, something small in my car. have a smallish box fit in the glovebox, controller ports still used since is in the car. are there also batterys that would be good to use to run the system but that i can hook up to my car battery...since it would be rechargable that way lol.

With a Genesis or a SNES you can easily mod it for car power. An inverter is a waste of power and money. All you have to do is replace the regulator with one that can handle more voltage and use a bigger heatsink. In fact you might be able to get away with just a heatsink. Make sure you get the polarity right though, and only plug it into the lighter jack, anywhere else might screw up the car's electronic equipment. Actually you could probably wire it in parallel with the receiver, but you might not get enough power. I don't see why you would need batteries.

No. $20 or $30 will get you a pretty good one, and they come in handy for powering all sorts of stuff (laptops, um, other stuff). They aren't that bad on efficiency, otherwise they'd get piping hot. And they don't require modification to the system (blasphemy, I know, but its easier).
