Is it possible to replace a trackball in an old mouse with an analog stick?

Pots where? in the mouse? I think it uses sensors (one for up, one for down, etc...)to interpret corresponding wheel movements.

in that case, i doubt it will work. just rig an anolog stick to a micro controller and then write a driver. it'd be easier. :?

A ball mouse uses optical encoders, like an N64 stick. There are two, one for X and one for Y. They are both driven by the ball. And no you cannot plug in an N64 stick, because you will get a tiny bit of movement and that's all because of the way it's decoded.
