Some help with a simple schematic

Hello,

I'm in the process of doing the internal vga mod on a dreamcast. While looking at the schematic at mmmonkey.co.uk I noticed the unused terminals on the switch and thought a NOT circuit would fit right in there for an led to indicate when vga is on.

Does someone here with superior circuitry knowledge approve or disapprove this way to switch the led?


I just don't want my dc to go up in flames.

I don't think it would break anything, but I don't think it'll work either.

It would work, but not very well. In order to avoid burning current through the resistor when the switch is set to 'off', you would need a much larger resistor (a few k-ohms at least), but then you would only get a couple mA at most through your LED. Depending on the LED you use and how bright you want it to be that may be enough, otherwise you could use a transistor to switch the LED.

I finished the vga mod sans led indicator. I've never seen dreamcast in vga before today, it's awsome!
