Flash ROM VCSp

Post by bicostp »

There's a 2600 cart for sale at the Atariage store: the "Krokodile Cartridge". It's a 512k flash ROM, it supports most of the ROM paging modes, and it connects to the PC through a serial port. I am not advocating the use of ROMS, and that's not what this article is about. I'm asking "Would it be easily accomplished to make a portable with a built in Flash ROM card?" (I'm just using the Krok Cart as an example) And could it possibly have an a/b switch and a cart slot so you can play real games or the internal cart?

I'll post a crappy Paint Pic of a concept drawing later.

I imagine you could wire in 'two cart slots', and have a switch between the power of each. The second cart slot would just be some wires soldered onto the Krok Kart or whatever its called, have it internal.

As promised, here's the Crappy Paint Pic (TM)

Image

The largest rectangle, with the screen, is the front of tha case. It has a paddle pot, D-pad, trigger button, and select/reset buttons. The view below is the bottom of the unit. It has the A/V output and headphone jack, a DC input jack, and a Tint adjustment hole. (A small screwdriver is inserted into the hole to turn the pot.)

The last rectangle is the left side of the unit. It has a Krok Kart / Cart slot selecter switch, a volume knob, and a power sw itch (which I forgot to add. Oops.) The black box on the back is the cartridge slot connector. But, for the sake of simplicity, I guess you could do away with the cart slot altogether.

Does anyone have any comments / suggestions?

Why bother hardwireing it in? Its just a cart so use it like any other cart.

The point is, you don't have to carry around an extra cart to play a quick game of Pitfall or Pac-Man.

I can't seem to find the cart you mentioned, do you have a direct link to it?

Interesting idea.

No problem.

Here's their Homepage.

Here's the article about it on AtariAge.

And here's its "shelf" in the AtariAge Store.

Hope this helps!
