i've always wanted to build a computer, i love video games, and i thought it'd be cool if i built my own in an xbox. would there be sufficient airflow? i don't want anything fancy. my laptop sucks. it's got a tiny little wimpy celeron m processor, but i've got this thing running doom 3 pretty well, which was amazing it'd even work. i know how to build one, i'm just a little confused on processor sockets. is the letter after the processor the socket type, as in mine being a celeron (m)
that aside, is it possible? i mean changing all the controller sockets to usb ports, and putting all of the other ports in the back where the video and power is, and putting the cd/dvd drive where the original one was, and doing this without it starving for cool air.

What exactly are your expectations for this computer? Do you want a gaming beast, or just something you can hook up to the tv and play some emulators?
The Xbox is pretty much a desktop computer to start with. It looks like air flow is crappy, but it still manages to stay cool enough. Mainly dependent on how fast it is.
The "m" in Celeron M stands for Celeron Mobile. Nothing in the everyday name for most CPUs says the socket. When you're buying a CPU and motherboard, it says what socket they are. Most Intel CPUs are LGA 775, and AMD uses AM2, AM2+, and AM3.

As someone else showed, it's possible to fit a microATX board in an XBOX. It's certainly possible, however you would need to make it small. I don't know if you could fit a good videocard in. Maybe use a riser board?
In any case, with a project like this draw it out first. Don't wing it like me (measure never, cut 3 zillion times).

Certainly do-able - just don't expect to fit a gaming beast in it.
You can even do the discrete graphics card if you use the above-mentioned riser card. I found one that uses ribbon cable, so I have more flexibility as to placement.
