Question about ambidextrousness.

Well, I play guitar (right handedly), and I want to start learning lefty. Is it really that hard to train your brain to do things with your off hand? Any tips on something like this?

Depending on your age,
It may be almost impossible.

The best way to do it though is to break your good arm
It will train you to use your other hand more.
Trust me, it happened to me.

Learning to play guitar left-handedly after being a righty is probably going to be hard. From what I've heard, you should start by doing smaller things (brushing your teeth, opening doors, using a mouse, etc.) with your other hand before you move on to bigger things.

Yeah that's not going to happen any time soon for me.

Pretty much all my left hand is good for is pressing a few keys and SHIFT on the keyboard. (Oh, and of course WASD.) I tried a left-handed mouse configuration on a few occasions and it's basically freakin' impossible. Maybe I'm too old, or have been using computers too long, and those movements have become so ingrained into my subconscious that they're impossible to override.

Well, I can brush my teeth with both my hands. haha I guess I'll try a mouse swap right now, with buttons changed too. I think I might start doing guitar hero again, but lefty mode, and see if that helps.

I briefly tried playing guitar hero lefty when my arm and hand were really sore from playing so much. Didn't work so good, but I didn't stick with it, either.

I was trying to learn to write left handed. I'd write 10 lines or so of the alphabet every night, and write out simple sentences. I stopped about a month ago, but I have retained some of my improvement. I went from bad kindergarden writing to about 2nd grade writing. It was cool to look back at them and see the improvement. I lost the papers, but if I find them, I will post them.

To get better at playing Handball (like racketball but with no racket and a ball that is 6 times as hard). I started doing things with my right hand (im a lefty). Took a good month or so but my right arm is "almost" as good as my left. I started serving the ball right handed to trip up my opponents even more.

Apparently, I've been ambidextrous my whole life. I was reading in some of my old report cards once about my teachers having fits over what hand I should be taught to write with. I have no preference for either hand at all. It's convenient, but I've never known what it's like to have a dominant hand.
