Is paypal safe

Post by blaze3927 »

Hi
im looking to buy an alienware m17x imported from china, the strange thing is i've found a seller (from alibaba)whos selling them for $500 USD inc shipping worldwide. i would usually definitley say no to this (sounds scammish) but i had a good expeience importing from alibaba for a nds lite which cost me 100USD inc. shipping with R4 plus 4GB micro SD card. Also the seller accepts paypal. So if I were to transfer $500 usd to the seller using payapl would I definitley be able to get the money back if it was a fraud?
thanks

Paypal has an FAQ and help section. You should look there to see how much you're covered against fraud.

You only have the Paypal buyer protection if you purchase it through eBay. If you do, then you should be fine.

I've used Paypal for about 8 years, never any problems.

Also recently I bought a Memory Stick from a Chinese seller. Got here in about 2 weeks... a little slow compared to most auctions, but it came.

I use PayPal for everything and I have never had a problem with them. It's probably the best way to buy anything off the net.

attach a credit card as primary means of payment and take all your money out of paypal, pay with the credit card that way if paypal cant save your ass then your CC company can!

I will use google checkout before paypal. I will take it before paypal, as well.

I have done over 1000 transactions via PayPal over the last couple of years, no issues. I get things sent over from USA, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, China and Japan (more recently, for many HUcards). Excellent way to buy things.

whatch out for alibaba.com!!

its supposedly a very bad site. remember those screens? (the ones that looked really good, but there was all sorts of discrepancies with their bank info and such)

apperently most of the stuff on there is "fake". you wont actually ever get anything. they just take your money

Alibaba is totally open.

It's filled with totally legit, cool dudes, with great deals.
It's also filled with liars and scammers.

you don't think paypal is safe?

well, a few years ago, my parents wanted to buy something online, but you needed to put your credit card info on it. the transaction went fine, and my parents got what they wanted.
however, someone was watching the transaction.
they stole their credit card info, and and took over $800 dollars. please note my parents at the time were having financial issues and only had about $300 in their bank account. it was about a month when the ordeal was over with.
we could barely afford to pay our monthly bills, like water, heat, etc. we had no internet access, because we couldn't afford to pay the telephone bill. we couldn't even afford to buy enough groceries for the week.
after that little incident my parents never bought anything online, but they had heard how secure paypal was, and i signed up a universal account. we haven't had any problems with theft ever since
so, to answer your question, yes
paypal is one of the only trustworthy things on the net used for buying

Indeed, any credit card transaction, be it in person, over the phone or via internet is always assuming the person you are dealing with isn't a con. The other issue is that even if you deal with a site with your credit card and you have the secure padlock, the server or host can be hacked, if they are, your details aren't safe. PayPal are therefore more secure as it is their business at stake.
