my nesp worklog thread (lots of pics 56k oh noooooooooo)

been working on this thing on and off since a week or two before the MGC. Finally had some time to start working on it again so hopefully I finish soon! Had a little scare earlier tonight with some batteries, kept them in while i was hot glueing the controller into my case. Smelled something singe(ing?) and after coming back from turning on a fan my hand grazed my battery pack to realize my batteries were almost on fire. Had to pry them out with a pen cause they were pretty hot (and a little squishy lol). They werent anywhere near the glue gun but maybe a string of glue got on the batteries or something. Freaked me out a little but I'm just glad they didn't explode in my face or anything. Lesson learned, and thankfully it still works. Time for pics!


everything wired and connected ready to go. superglued the pads straight to the controller so they stay in place and dont fall out when playing.


Contra. Tbh my screen is too small and crappy to play this properly as i can hardly see "normal" bullets i shoot or the ones shot at me.

Fast forward (and rewind a bit) to yesterday. Time to paint! Used Krylon Fusion, of course. Taped it up nice so when its done I'll have a neat silver stripe.

Added the controller decal, which just peels off of the NES controller. Added speaker holes on the bottom there today (not pictured).

Only thing left is to try and secure it all into the case, which I never got around to finishing cause of the battery overheating thing. The case is ugly and way too big for the parts and my cutting is a bit haggard but it's my first portable so its the best I can do right now :p

I prolly forgot something or posted stuff that doesnt make sense as its 4:30 am. One of these days i'll stop vampire-posting but i'll give it a quick edit in the morning if needed

Wow that looks really nice. A lot better than it looked in the first few pics anyway.

hmm. the screen hole needs evened out more. you wouldn't want a bit of the screen to be covered up, now would you?

its actually cut too big (vertically) as i messed up and cut it too low the first time. Gonna use the original screen bezel from the pocket tv to cover the hole

The controller decal naturally adds instant awesome. Using a set of files for fine details and corners would go a long way toward helping the "finished" look of the case.

Well, you've got the electronics working and most of the case done - finish this sucker up!

Nice! As Life of Brian said, that decal really adds to the design! Soon, you'll have a working portable...and it will be good
