GBA-SP to GB project

Hi all,

Someone on AtariAge mentioned the posibility of putting a Gameboy Advance SP into the casing of an original Gameboy and asked for someone to make one. He's since lost intrest, having sold his Gameboy stuff since the post was made. But the idea wouldn't leave me..

This is how I was thinking:

Remove the circuit board, cartridge slot, speaker and screen from the original Gameboy.

Take everything out of the AdvanceSP. Work the screen into where the original GB screen was.
Wire the original GB buttons onto the Advance-SP board.
Move the Advance speaker to the corner.
Add three holes - one for the backlight button and the other two for the L and R buttons.
Cut down the size of the original GB cartridge port and fit in the Advance SP port.
Remove the springs and stuff from the battery compartment to fit in the SP battery. Keep the cover.
Forget about the contrast
Swap the gamelink ports.

What do you think? Workable?

Seems a bit tough, but it's definitely possible, it's just a simple relocation. The hardest part would be the case work for the triggers and the cartridge slot. I would love to see it done though. Sounds like an awesome idea.

Just because someone else has done it, that doesn't mean that you can't. Just think if that was for everyone did that, then we'd only have one of each portable. That would just suck. I'm sure you can think of something to make it unique.

Well, I've never done any mods before! My ideas are on the top of the thread, although the creator of the other mod listed here had some good ideas.

I know how to fix PC's - that's part of my living and I maintain the network of a local school.

Since this is your first project, your better off doing something that's already done. Those guys are active forum members, so i'm sure they will be able to give you advice if you get stuck.
